Pete Marland

Pete has over two decades of political experience. He was Leader of Milton Keynes City Council for twelve years before standing down in May 2026. He also served as Chair of the Local Government Association Resources Board.

Pete established TYS Insight to help organisations better understand what drives politicians and the decisions they make, offering a more in-depth service than the average political consultancy so that clients can achieve their aims.

He is widely regarded as an effective and influential advocate for development, and is a leading expert on growth, local government, finance and public sector service improvement.

He has extensive experience of working across sectors, with politicians, officials and businesses, to provide strategic insight and influence policy. Pete specialises in providing cutting-edge analysis of the current political environment to help develop bespoke approaches to deliver growth, financial improvement, service integration, campaigns and communications strategies.

Pete has spoken at many events in the UK, including at the Royal Society for Science and Technology, and in Europe, China, India and Taiwan on issues such as sustainability, urban planning, Smart Cities and the impact of technology on growth.

He was Councillor of the Year (Housing Awards, 2025), and was nominated for Council Leader of the Year (LGIU, 2024) and World Leader of the Year (Smart Cities World Congress, 2022).

He was previously a management accountant for a FTSE 250 company, worked for an HM Treasury Minister, and worked in communications for Liverpool Football Club.

He is a graduate of the Urban95 Academy (London School of Economics) and the Systems Thinking and Leadership programme (University of Birmingham / Leadership Institute). He holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Business Administration (University of Chester) and a BA (Hons) in Politics (University of Liverpool).
